A hat is a must during hot season in Myanmar; sun protection cream or local thanaka it has to be in your bag as well. As for the clothes choose clothing made of breathable materials, such as cotton, linen and Avoid clothing made of polyester, nylon, or silk. It recommended for the clothes to cover the shoulder (for the women visiting the pagodas in Myanmar) and for men shorts but not to short.

Is it the best time to visit Myanmar in Hot Season?

Yes and no; depending if you like hot weather or not. March is still a great month to travel to Myanmar; it’s getting hotter in the second period of the month. April is not a very good month to travel in Myanmar only if you like playing with water and getting wet. April coincides with the Water Festival in Myanmar – Myanmar New Year and for 5-6 days all street are full with wet people.

Price are very high, buses are very full and it’s impossible to get a free seat and the hotels in Ngapali, one of the best beaches in South East Asia are fully booked and you need to book way in advance to get a room. In May temperatures can reach up to 42-43ºC (108-109ºF) ; it’s not recommend to visit Myanmar during May for the elderly and people with heart condition. The good part about traveling to Myanmar in May are the prices – it’s already considered green season and hotels in Myanmar have a great price and offer especially the 4* and 5* hotels in Myanmar.

  • What to wear in Myanmar in rainy season: Umbrella is mandatory. Bring a raincoat as well. As for the shoes, bring slippers; during downpours the water level on the street of Yangon and Mandalay can reach 20 cm and shoes would be all wet. In Inle Lake and Bagan it can get muddy and get prepared for that as well with an extra pair of shoes. Clothes get soaked very fast and dry very, very slow. Better have at least 2-3 pair of each item. Mold is everywhere (especially in Yangon) and for long stays in Myanmar clothes can get damaged. In morning and evening it can bet a bit chill a jacket is needed. Hotel in Myanmar do provide blankets so no need to carry one from home; better take a small one from the plane!

This season is also known as “the green season”, because scenery is a lush green at this time of year, particularly the rice paddies. Despite this, there are fewer tourists around, meaning you can enjoy the tourist sites in relative peace and quiet. In particular, the ruins of Bagan in Myanmar will be less crowded.

Depend of the monsoon. Each year the monsoon are not the same; some year can be under the influence of La Nina or El Nino which can bring heavy rains or less rains. June is still a good month to travel to Myanmar – rains are not that heavy (can rain only 30 min a day only in the afternoon) less number of tourists and good deals for the tours to MyanmarJuly is getting a bit coler and the rains intensifies. In Inle the water levels increase again and all the canals are open again. August is the peak of rain in Myanmar.

Most of the hotels in Ngapali beach are closed and water level in Mandalay famous Ubein Bridge are getting higher occasionally is floodedSeptember along with June is one of the best month to travel to Myanmar during the rainy season. Rain drops in intensitative, temperatures are getting a bit higher and all country is green especially the plains of Bagan. Still no Balloons Over Bagan in September so in terms of balloon ride in Myanmar the low season is not the best time to visit Myanmar.

Inle Lake – Weather in Inle Lake in January is characterized by cool and dry. Temperatures are influenced as well by the elevation. Inle Lake, the second largest lake in Myanmar with an  estimated surface area of 44.9 square miles (116 km2) is at 880 m above the sea. During the month of January temperatures are as high as 24ºC (75ºF) and averages lows at 16ºC (61ºF) In the morning temperatures can drop to 8ºC and with the water influence the real feeling can be lower so has a tick jacket and ask for a blanket from your boatman during your Inle Lake Tour. Mandalay – The weather in Mandalay in January is a perfect combination of temperature and humidity. With highs  of 28ºC (82ºF) and lows of 13ºC (55 ºF) visiting Ubein Bridge or AVA can make your trip almost perfect.

Ngapali Beach – This is peak season for travelling to Myanmar. The weather is hot and dry, water temperature in Ngapali is great. Temperature in the air are at 30ºC (average high) and lows as 12-13ºC (54-55ºF) making the nights a bit colder. Bottom line, weather in Ngapali in January is perfect to end the private tour to Myanmar!

Bagan – Sun is present on the sky in Bagan in the month of February more than 11 hours per day and no clouds at all.  Weather in February in Bagan get hotter compared with February but not too much – average high in Bagan in February reaches 32 ºC (90ºF) and lows at 15 ºC (59ºF) Better start the Bagan tour early in the morning visiting the colourful Bagan Market. This is the best time to visit Bagan in the month of February!

Inle Lake  – Summer months are approaching and the temperatures are starting to rise; average high are close to 26ºC (79ºF) and in the evening drops to 18ºC (64ºF). In early morning, temperatures can drop as low as 9ºC. If you are planning to visit the 5 days market in Inle Lake better dress accordingly. The rain does not appears. If you want to book a hotel on the lake better book a few month is advance. Good hotels get fully booked during the month of February in Inle Lake.

Mandalay – Weather in Mandalay in January is the same with the previous month. To skip the afternoon heat, head to a cruise to Mingun. Temperatures are as high as 31ºC (88ºF)

Ngapali Beach – The weather in Ngapali in February is getting a bit hotter compared with February but as long as the beach and the sea along with a coconut juice is close to you it does not matter. Taking into consideration that it’s still winter in Europe, Canada or USA feel free to take a selfie and make your friends jealous. Temperatures reaches 32ºC (90ºF) and mornings and evenings around 15 to 16ºC (59-61ºF) perfect for the morning jogging on the beach. This month is the best month to visit Myanmar & Ngapali due to low number of tourists (empty beaches) and great weather!

How is the Weather in Myanmar in March?

  • Overview of Weather in Myanmar in March : Even if it’s getting hotter still no rain. Head to the hill stations of Kalaw, Pyin Oo Lwin or Hsipaw for excellent weather and perfect trekking along the hill tribes people.

Better rent a car and a guide to guide you to the green spots of Yangon as Kandawgyi Park or Inya Lake.  Average highs are between 35 ºC (95ºF) and 37ºC ( 99ºF) and average lows between 20ºC (68ºF) and 21 ºC (70ºF). March is one of the best month to visit Myanmar and Yangon.

Bagan – Month of March marks the transition from the cool season to hot season in Myanmar. Bagan being located in semi-arid area will be more influenced compared with Mandalay or Inle Lake. As for the weather in Bagan in March, the temperatures will stand at 38ºC (100ºF) in the afternoon and 24 ºC (75ºF) early in the morning and evenings.

Try to avoid Bagan sightseeing in the afternoon and going to climb 777 steps to Mt Popa for a day trip from Bagan is not a very good idea if you have heart problems. Better head for a river cruise sightseeing in Bagan. During the month of April in Bagan, the chances of rain are close to zero (0).

Inle Lake  – The last month of the balloon season in Inle Lake. The balloon ride in Inle Lake, Myanmar is shorter compared with the balloon season in Bagan. The last day of the balloon ride in Inle is on 15th of March so better take the advance for having a amazing balloon ride Over Inle.  The pick up is by boat early in the morning when the temperatures are as lows as 13ºC (55ºF) In the afternoon the temperature can reach up to 22ºC (72ºF); the sun is stronger during  the month of March so better has a cream in your backpack.

Mandalay – Month of March is one of the hottest for the Mandalay region. Highs as 37ºC (99ºF) and in some days can reach up to 42ºC (108ºF). Humidity is at the lowest (54%) and still no sign of rain. Better do the sightseeing early in the morning or late in afternoon. After lunch when the sun is the strongest head to your hotel swimming pool in Mandalay.

Ngapali Beach – The white sands and the turquoise water is waiting for you in Ngapali during the whole month of March. Yangon – April is one of the hottest month in Myanmar. Everyone is waiting for the Water Festival to get cooler, have fun and visit their families. Yangon becomes deserted for some days with most of the shops, supermarkets and restaurants being closed. Prices for car rental are double in this period and the number of available guides is lower; better try to postpone your visit to Yangon after the Myanmar New Year.  Average highs are between 38 ºC (100ºF) and 39ºC ( 102ºF) and average lows between 24ºC (75ºF) and 25 ºC (77ºF)

Bagan – Weather in Bagan in April reaches the highest peak in terms of temperatures. In the afternoon expect averages of more than 39-40 ºC (102-104ºF) – better stay at your hotel with swimming pool in Bagan or rent a car with AC to visit the pagodas rather then renting and e-bike or bike. In the evening when temperatures are dropping to 25-26 ºC (77-79ºF) why not renting a horse car. You can still visit Bagan in April but just to sure to have enough water with you. April is not the best month to visit Myanmar and Bagan due to the high temperatures.

Inle Lake Beginning of hot season is starting in Inle Lake as well during the month of April. It’s a popular month for local travelers who are trying to escape the Yangon heat and head during the Myanmar New Year to Inle Lake; better book your hotel in Inle Lake at least one month in advance. Temperatures during the day can reach up to 25ºC (77ºF) and highs as 32ºC (90ºF) and lows as 18ºC (64ºF). Some sporadic rain may occur – around 48mm of rain during the month of April in the Inle Lake Region.

Mandalay – The hottest month of the year in Mandalay with temperature reaching 39ºC (102) Some sporadic rains might occur ( 2 days per month). Lows are at 27 (80ºF) to 28ºC (82ºF) but you can still enjoy a horse ride in Inwa or a day trip by boat to Mingun.

Ngapali Beach – April is another crazy month for the hotels in Ngapali. Beach is Myanmar is very popular with the locals and the growing expat community in Myanmar and we can not find a free room not even in the most expensive hotel and resort in Ngapali Beach.  Book 2-3 months in advance to get your room

Sightseeing is recommend early in the morning and late afternoon.  Average highs are between 33 ºC (92ºF) and 34ºC ( 93ºF) and average lows between 23ºC (74ºF) and 24 ºC (75ºF)

Bagan – The rainy season is just around the corner and air is getting a bit colder compared with the month of April. Temperature in Bagan in May are dropping to 36 ºC (97ºF) during the day and 23 ºC (74ºF) during the night. The drop in temperatures makes the month of May more plesuable to visit Bagan compared with April.  At the end of May, rains starts to pour in Bagan – only 24mm of rain and total 7 days of rain. Don’t expect all day rain – mostly will be 1h downpour followed by excellent weather to visit the pagodas around Bagan.

Inle Lake May weather in Inle Lake is getting cooler with average temperatures as high as 29ºC (84ºF) and in the afternoon up to 25ºC (77ºF)). Rain starts in mid May and the canals are starting to be full again. Depending on the previous season rain level, not all the canals will be reachable by boat and the water level can drop significantly; Inle Lake has a depth of only 3m. Evening temperatures can drop to 18ºC (64ºF) and the level of rain is 200mm in the month of May in Inle Lake.

Mandalay – High temperatures – 38ºC (100ºF) and high humidity (68%) makes the month of May not that pleasant to travel to Mandalay in May. Better head to Pyin Oo Lwin or Hsipaw ( via the Gotheik) for lower temperatures. Temperatures during the evening are back to normal at around 24 ºC (75ºF)

Ngapali Beach – The average temperature in Thandwe in May is very hot at 29-30ºC (84-86ºF). In the afternoon temperatures can reach 34-35ºC (93-95ºF) and even overnight temperatures remains high at 24ºC (75ºF). Better choose a hotel next to the beach in Ngapali to jump straight in the water. Hotels in Ngapali are still open in May and  the prices are lower compared with the peak month. Even if it’s hot May is a good weather to visit Ngapali due to the price of the hotels in Ngapali.

  • Overview of Weather in Myanmar in June : It’s the beginning of the rainy season in Myanmar but the rain is not yet that strong and makes the month of June a pleasant month to travel with lovely temperatures. Most of the hotels on the seaside are closed till end of August and some hotels in Inle Lake are as well closed for the anul renovation.

Yangon – And the much expected rain comes! Temperature in Yangon in June and getting close to decent numbers and the air is breathable again.  Expect short downpours no longer than 45 minutes; just take a small break and enjoy a coffee in one of the shops around the colonial buildings of downtown Yangon. Expect rain on every day in Yangon and  547mm (21.5in) of rain during all the month. Average highs are between 29 ºC (84ºF) and 30ºC ( 86ºF) and average lows between 22ºC (72ºF) and 24 ºC (75ºF).

Bagan – Weather in June in Bagan is getter more humid and the number of rainy days increases to 7-10 per month. Average temperature drops to 26°C (79ºF) and low can drop in the evening to 17-18°C.(63-65ºF) The rain is more or less the same compared with previous month.

Inle Lake  – All the lake’s canals are again accessible during the month of June in Inle Lake. The second month of the rainy season brings 230mm in rain and the number of rainy days is only 13. So you still have more than half of the days of June without rain in Inle Lake. With temperatures as high as 24ºC (75ºF) and lows as 19 (66 ºF) and good prices for the hotels in and around Inle Lake, makes the month of June a decent and good month to travel in Inle Lake and Myanmar. 

Mandalay – The average temperature in Mandalay in June is very hot at 30°C (86°F ) and overnight temperatures are generally hot with an average low of 25 °C (77 °F). June is  the month with the highest rainfall in Mandalay (160cm of rain) and high humidity (78%). Expect a number of 7 rainy days in this month in Mandalay.

Ngapali Beach First month of the rainy season in Ngapali comes with heavy rain. Up to 1300mm of rain and strong winds hit the shores of Ngapali. All most of the hotels in Ngapali are closed in June and only few are opened. The flight to Ngapali are only available from Yangon but not every day. Better skip Ngapali during the month of June. Temperatures are lowered that June – only 29ºC (84ºF) during day and 24ºC (75ºF) in the evening and morning.

How is the Weather in Myanmar in July ?

  • Overview of Weather in Myanmar in July : Heavy rain starts to pour in all the tourist destination in Myanmar; the highest rainfall occurs in Ngapali and Yangon while Mandalay and Bagan can be still dry for some days as well the central part of Myanmar. The northern part as Kachin, Putao and Hsipaw are not that good for trekking due to heavy rain.

Yangon –  There are no much difference in temperatures compared with the month of June for the weather in July in Yangon. Throw the rain intensities to a total of 559mm (22in) of rain and it’s getting more and more humid. Sun is expected to be on the sky on averages 3 hours a day. Average highs are between 29 ºC and 30ºC ( 86ºF) and average lows between 22ºC (72ºF)and 24 ºC (75ºF)

Bagan – Weather in July in Bagan has the same characteristics as June. Same temperatures  – averages high as 26°C and lows as 17 to 18°C (63-65ºF) in the morning and evening. Number of rainy days are similar 7-10 days and it does not rain that much – only 18 mm. The rainy months in Bagan are still good months to be visit the pagodas and surrounding despite the rain which is not that heavy as in Yangon or Ngapali Beach.

Inle Lake The weather for the month of July for Inle Lake is similar with the June month. A small increase in precipitation – 230 cm and number of rainy days are 15 compared with 13 in June. The temperatures are dropping a bit to 23ºC (74ºF) in the afternoon and and as lows at 19ºC (66ºF) Less tourists visiting the month of June in Inle will mean less noise in  the morning on the lake; if you are choosing a resort on the Inle Lake.

Mandalay – June weather in Mandalay can be considered the best month to travel in Mandalay during the rainy season. The volume of precipitation falls from the previous month to only 80 mm and the number of rain days is 7. The average high temperature in July for example is just 2 degrees more than in February and stands at 34ºC (93ºF) as high and lows at 24ºC (75ºF) Day trip to Sagaing or Ubein Bridge can be added to your trip to Mandalay.

Ngapali Beach   July weather in Ngapali has the same pattern as in June. Except that the rain is even heavier; more than 1400 cm of rain falls during the month of July; waves during storm can reach up to 5-6 meter so surfing can be a good option for Ngapali during the monsoon. Temperatures remain constant to 29°C  (84ºF) during the day and lows as 23°C. Most of the hotels are still closed in July  in Ngapali.

Bagan – The weather in Bagan in August is still not good for the balloon ride which resumes in October. But it still decent to visit it despite the rain. After 2 months of rain the plain of Bagan transforms itselfs to green and the fresh air after the rain makes the sightseeing pleasant in the month of August in Bagan. Average temperature remain contact to 25°C (77ºF) and in the evening around 18°C (64ºF)

Inle Lake The month of August is the rainiest one in Inle Lake.
