When to travel to Inle Lake, Myanmar
The period between November – April is named the best time for you to visit Inle Lake. This time of year offers you the best balance of weather, clear skies and you can visit the 5-day market as well.
November marks the beginning of dry season in Inle Lake, and brings along with it all the hallmarks that make this time of year so pleasant; the day’s range from cool to warm, humidity is low, and rainy days are over.
April and May are the months to be avoided to visit Inle Lake – water levels drop and some canals will not be able to be reached by boat
During the months of the monsoon (June-October) the other level rise again and the hotel prices are much lower compared to high season. The number or tourist is lower and make the lake less crowded
From November to May there is no change of rain in Inle Lake.
In the cool season time, you’re looking at average temperatures of 27 °C in November to – 24°C in December and January & humidity lowers to 35%.
Winter is considered in Myanmar the months of December and January; temperature can drop during the mornings to 6°C during the mornings and evenings so better have an extra jacket. December is considered high season in Myanmar and expect higher number of tourists and a spike in prices (Mid Dec to early January)
Now is the best time for balloon ride in Inle Lake as well. Book in advance so not to be disappointed for not having a seat!
In Inle Lake, the hot season starts in March. The humidity increases and the temperatures are starting to rise from 27 to 32° in April. The hot air makes the month of April and May not such a good time of year to visit Inle Lake. But being low season the hotels prices are lower, less tourists and more spots for you.
The rainy season beginnings in Inle Lake around mid-May. The months of August and September are the rainiest ones in Inle Lake. Expect no more than 195mm of rain per month. Compared to Yangon who has more than 500mm per month. Compared with London which has around 95mm per month.

In the rainy season, in Inle Lake the average temperatures drop between 16 – 17°C in the night time and 24 – 25°C during the day time. Rainfall is generally at its highest in August, with an average of 33cm.

Finding good food is not at all difficult in Inle Lake. Nyaungshwe is full of Western food and plenty of local shan restaurant. For the local restaurants you should try a dinner at the Paw Paw Restaurant – which provides cooking classes as well. As for the western food go to One Owl Grill Inle- try the burger! Is really good. All restaurants recommended are owned by local people
