When to travel to Bagan, Myanmar
The period between November – April is named the best time for you to visit Bagan. This time of year offers you the best balance of weather, clear skies and the change to ride the balloon in Bagan. November marks the beginning of dry season in Bagan, and brings along with it all the hallmarks that make this time of year so pleasant; the day’s range from cool to warm, humidity is low, and rainy days are over and it’s the perfect time for the hot air balloon ride in Bagan.
From November to May there is no chance of rain in Bagan
In the cool season time, you’re looking at average temperatures of 35 °C in November to – 28.8°C in December and January & humidity lowers to 35%. If you want to enjoy Bagan sunset or sunrise, the 2000 temples from above from the balloons now is the perfect moment for you. You can still expect some drops of rain at the beginning of November but don’t worry.
Winter is considered in Myanmar the months of December and January; temperature can drop during the mornings to 10°C so better have an extra jacket. December is considered high season in Myanmar and expect higher number of tourists and a spike in prices (Mid Dec to early January)
Now is the best time for balloon ride in Bagan as well. Book in advance so not to be disappointed for not having a seat!
In Bagan, the hot season starts in March. The humidity increases and the temperatures are starting to rise from 32 to 39° in April. The hot air makes the month of April and May not such a good time of year to visit Bagan. But being low season the hotels prices are lower, less tourists and more spots for you. March is the last month of the balloons over Bagan season.
The rainy season beginnings in Bagan around mid-May. The months of May and June are the rainiest ones in Bagan. Expect no more than 195 mm of rain per month. Compared to Yangon who has more than 500mm per month. Compared with London which has around 95mm per month.
But being located in a tropical climate the rains in Bagan are short and heavy. Expect one hour of heavy rain and then sun. Expect 8 hours per day in May and 5 hours (the lowest in August)
In the rainy season, in Bagan the average temperatures drop between 23 – 25°C in the night time and 31 – 32°C during the day time. Rainfall is generally at its highest in August, with an average of 25cm.

Finding good food is not at all difficult in Bagan. Nyaung U is full of Western food and plenty of local restaurant. For the local restaurants you should try a dinner at the Bagan Zay Restaurant. As for the western food if you miss a pizza go to La Pizza Restaurant which has one of the best pizza in Myanmar. All restaurants recommended are owned by local people.
