    When to travel to Mandalay, Myanmar

    The period between October – April is named the best time for you to visit Mandalay. This time of year offers you the best balance of weather, clear skies and you can visit all the major sightseeing’s in Mandalay from Mandalay Hill to Amarapura, Inwa and U-Bein Bridge for the amazing sunset!

    October marks the beginning of dry season in Mandalay, and brings along with it all the hallmarks that make this time of year so pleasant; the day’s range from cool to warm, humidity is low, and rainy days are over.

    April and September are the months to be avoided to visit Mandalay. Temperatures in April can reach up to 40 °C  and September is the rainiest month.

    During the months of the monsoon (June-October) some parts of U-Bein Bridge or Amarapura can be flooded and sight might not be reachable – usually happens in July-August.

    From November to May there is no change of rain in Mandalay.

    Weather in Mandalay

    Mandalay has a tropical wet and dry climate . Mandalay features noticeably warmer and cooler periods of the year. Average temperatures in January, the coolest month, hovers around 21 °C while the warmest month, April, averages 31 °C. Mandalay is very hot in the months of April and May, with average high temperatures easily exceeding 35 °C. It is not uncommon to see high temperatures surpass 40 °C during these two months in the city.

    Cool Season (November – February)

    In the cool season time, you’re looking at average temperatures of 27 °C in November to – 28°C in December and January  &  humidity lowers to 60%.

    Winter is considered in Myanmar the months of December and January; temperature can drop during the mornings to 21°C  during the mornings and evenings so better have an extra jacket. December is considered high season in Myanmar and expect higher number of tourists and a spike in prices (Mid Dec to early January)

    Now is the best time for photos during the morning to catch the fog from the Mandalay Hill or the sunset at Ubein Bridge.

    Hot Season (March – April)

    In Mandalay, the hot season starts in March. The humidity increases and the temperatures are starting to rise from 35 to 41° in April. The hot air makes the month of April and May not such a good time of year to  visit Mandalay. But being low season the hotels prices are lower, less tourists and more spots for you.

    Rainy Season (May – October)

     The rainy season beginnings in Mandalay around mid-May. The months of August and September are the rainiest ones in Mandalay. Expect no more than 150mm of rain per month. Compared to Yangon who has more than 500mm per month. Compared with London which has around 95mm per month.

    In the rainy season, in Mandalay the average temperatures drop between 19 – 20°C in the night time and 28 – 29°C during the day time. Rainfall is generally at its highest in September, with an average of 150mm.

    Where to eat in Mandalay

    Located on the banks of Irrawaddy river, Mandalay has some of  best Chinese & Shan food restaurant in the whole Myanmar. Our reccomdantion in Mandalay are Shan Ma Ma or Spice Garden for a great Indian food

    Finding good food is not at all difficult in Mandalay. Mandalay is full of Western food and plenty of local shan or Indian restaurants. For the local restaurants you should try a dinner at the Marie Min Restaurant – which provides the best vegetarian dishes in Mandalay. As for the western food go to BBB European Restaurant on 76th Street try the Spanish Sea Food ! Is really good. All restaurants recommended are owned by local people
