 #1 Secretariat Yangon: Myanmar instagrammable Spots

The Secretariat building is a new rookie on the stage of the Instagrammable spots in Myanmar and Yangon. The place was under intense renovation for the past years and actually since 2016 the place did not allowed visitors since the british left Burma in 1948!

The architecture of The Secretariat in  Yangon is almost as impressive as the history it holds. Entrance to the outside places is free  (with the exception of special exhibitions which takes place inside) and the building is a great rainy day activity when the weather is not so great in the  economical capital of Myanmar . Head to the very heart of the place to capture a stunning picture of the interior stairs which are the perfect place for an Instagrammable Photo in Yangon.

#2 Shwedagon Pagoda

The elegant Shwedagon Pagoda is Yangon’s most famous landmark. Every tourists which comes to visit Myanmar must pay a visit to the most sacred place for the buddhism in Myanmar.

To avoid the crowds and make the most Myanmar instagrammable Spots photo of the this place in Myanmar either come early in the morning just before sunrise or just before the sunrise (around 5.pm) where the Sun collides with the gold structure of this magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda.

Please bear in mind that this is sacred place and Dress Code is a must: dress conservatively (cover your knees and shoulders); if not we will be handle a longy at the entrance to be weared during your visit. Entrance fee is mandatory for foreigners: around 8$/person and children under 5 years old are free of charge.

#3 Kandawgyi Lake: Myanmar instagrammable Spots

Kandawgyi Lake  one of two major lakes in Yangon, Burma (Myanmar). Located east of the Shwedagon Pagoda, the lake is artificial and attracts mostly local people during the evenings for a stroll to escape the hot summer days. Place is perfect for a photo as well to catch the Shwedagon Pagoda in the background which makes the place very instamagrable. Best time to visit the area is for the sunset; there is only one modifical entrance fee of 300 kyats which is less than 30 cents.

Another instamagrable spot is the floating pagoda located in the lake which hosts every evening a interesting cultural show of Myanmar.

#4 Balloons over Bagan: Myanmar instagrammable Spots

The balloon ride in Myanmar is the most instagrammable spot in Myanmar by far. You have 2 option to make the best photo; either during a balloon ride  but you have to pay more than 300$ per person or from down which is free of charge. The balloon ride in Bagan only takes place in the morning and there are limited places every day which got sold out weeks in advance.

 

#5 Bagan Temples

With more than 2500 temples in Bagan, there are endless option to take a great Instagrammable photo in Bagan. Best time of the day is either at sunset on sunrise. Mid-day the Sun is very strong and light is not that perfect. There are endless option and local places to do the photo: with a bike, horse cart, ox ride or just walking along the temple. Try to go early in the season after the monsoon finishes and everything is green. In March/April the green is taken away by a golden set up: from the dust, pagodas and the Sun.

#6 Pyin Oo Lwin – Flower Festival

The National Kandawgyi Botanical Gardens is a 177 hectare botanical garden located in the former british hill town of Pyin U Lwin, Burma, situated at an elevation of 1000 metres and 69 km by road from Mandalay. Every year the place attracts thousands of visitors during the Flower Festival which is held in November and December each year in the National Kandawgyi Botanical Gardens.

Hundreds of colorful flowers and great design are put on display during those months which makes the place of the most instagrammable spots in Myanmar during those days!

#7 Gotheik Bridge – Shan State Myanmar

If you have planned a trip to Pyin Oo Lwin then you must do the trip by train to Gokteik Bridge. One of Burma’s most stunning man-made marvels, Gokteik Viaduct in Myanmar is a spectacular railway bridge over 100 metres high and nearly 700 metres. Tren depart every morning around 8am and tickets cost less than 5$ in the upper section of the trip. Our suggestion is to buy tickets in the lower section of the train (2$) where all the locals do stay and can interact and make great photos with them.

Most of the tourists get of after the bridge and then take the return train back to Pyin Oo Lwin. If you have time you can continue the trip up to Hsipaw a great area for trekking in Myanmar.

#8 Kalaw: Myanmar instagrammable Spots

Located in the Shan State, 50km from the famous Inle Lake, Kalaw was founded as a hill station by the British during colonial rule. Temperatures were much lower then Yangon and it was the perfect place to escape the heat!

Kalaw is famous & instamagrable spot in Myanmar mainly with the young & universities students which take photos on the rail.

Kalaw is the starting point for many trekking routes to Inle Lake as well. The most popular one is the  2 days / 1 night trekking from Kalaw to Inle Lake.

#9 Hsinbyume Pagoda – The White Temple in Mingun Mandalay

The Hsinbyume Pagoda is the hidden gem of the Mandalay & Myanmar in terms of the most instagrammable spots.  Located close to Mingun (which can be reach either by car or by a scenic 2 hour boat ride from Mandalay) has become a great spot & attraction for many locals and foreigner bloggers. Don’t worry if you don’t have the skills to take a great photo! There are a few local kids photographers which can lead you to the best areas and guide you to take the photos. You  can rent as well colourful umbrellas. This guys know a lot of photo techniques I was very impressed during my last visit to Hsinbyume Pagoda. Plus I was free of taking photos for my wife!

We need at least 1 to 2 hours to spend there are the instagrammable spots are sometime taken and need to wait a bit.

The Hsinbyume Pagoda is open every day during till 5pm. You do not need to buy any special ticket to enter it, but you are required to buy a ticket for the Mingun ticket which is about US 5.00 dollars.

#10 Kuthodaw Pagoda: Myanmar instagrammable Spots

The Kuthodaw is famous, both for its 729 whitewashed pagodas within the site and for housing the ‘world’s largest book’. Has become in the past years an icon  & popular spot for taken great photos as well.

The Kuthodaw Pagoda lies at the foot of Mandalay Hill and was built during the reign of King Mindon; it can easily be reached by foot, tuktuk and car from your hotel in Mandalay. Entrance fee is 10,000 kyats and it’s part of the archeological zone of Mandalay

#11 Inwa: Myanmar instagrammable Spots

Inwa or Ava located in Mandalay Region, Burma (Myanmar), is an ancient imperial capital of successive Burmese kingdoms from the 14th to 19th centuries. The classic name of Inwa was ‘Yadanapura’, which means the City of Gems. In 1839, due to a series of earthquakes, the city was abandoned and the capital was moved to Amarapura.

The place is similar in a way to Bagan but with smaller pagodas. To reach the place we need a private car or take a day trip from Mandalay. To explore Inwa the best option is with a horse cart where up to 3 person can fit in; the price for a day sightseeing is 12$.

#12 Ubein Bridge Amarapura

A trip to Mandalay is not complete with an evening visit to Ubein Bridge. U Bein Bridge is a crossing that spans the Taungthaman Lake near Amarapura in Myanmar. The 1.2-kilometre bridge was built around 1850 and is believed to be the oldest and longest teakwood bridge in the world.

During the hot season (end of March till June), water level is low and you can walk under the bridge. During the monsoon time especially in the years when it’s raining a lot, bridge can be covered by water and you can not even walk on it!

Best time to visit Ubein Bridge is during the month of October to March when the water level is OK and can do boat rides during the sunet to catch the best instamagrable photo in Ubein. Even if the place is not popular during the sunrise it’s more less crowded have more time & space available to take that great photo!

#13 Inle Lake Myanmar: Myanmar instagrammable Spots

Inle Lake is famous for its scenic beauty and the unique leg rowing of the Inthas, the native lake dwellers. Visiting Inle Lake in 3 days is the best option. Three days are enough to see all the important tourist attractions and fall in love with this place. If you have more time can spend an extra day for sightseeing around Inle Lake as Kakku Pagodas.

# 14 The Fisherman Inle Lake

Inle Lake is known for a traditional form of fishing practised by the Intha fishermen. They have a unique way of catching fish in the shallow water. Some of them have become professionals in terms of acting only if tourists come and pay them. We will encounter them at the entry of the lake and can negotiate with them depending on how many photos and hours do you need their service.

#15 Indein Pagoda Inle Lake 

The Shwe Indein Pagoda is a group of Buddhist pagodas in the village of Indein, near Ywama and Inlay Lake in Shan State, Myanmar. The pagodas were commissioned during the reign of King Narapatisithu. Half day trip is needed to reach the Indein Pagoda. What make this place instagrammable  are the Pa-o girls which are selling different scarfs.

#16 Kakku Inle Lake

The breathtaking Kakku pagodas have to be seen to be believed and is a Shan State hidden gem. Not too many people do the day full day trip from Inle Lake to Kakku but it is the great opportunity to discover more about the local tribe of Pa-O.  A guided tour is recomandle.

What makes Kakku a memorable and an instamagrable place is the water pond reflection in from of the pagoda complex of Kakku. From photos it seems more like a lake but it’s just a simple pond!

#17 Ngapali Beach: Myanmar instagrammable Spots

Last, but not the least Instagrammable place in Myanmar is Ngapali Beach – one of the most pristine, quite and clean beach in the whole South East Asia! Coconut trees, fisherman boats, white sand, delicious seafood: all waiting for you to take a photo with it!
